No lions in our missionary work! – August 25, 2014

Hey Yall!

This week was pretty fun and such and stuff.  For P-day we just lounged around for the most part.  But it was fun.  I enjoyed it.  Then on Tuesday we had an awesome district meeting.  Part of our discussion was about lions.  We talked about the story in 1 Kings 13 where the not quite exactly obedient prophet was killed by a lion.  Then the scripture in Proverbs 26:13 that teaches us that a slothful man says there is a lion in the streets.  So we talked about how we have to make sure there aren’t any lions in our missionary work.  It was fun.  The other things we talked about were really cool too.

Those were some of the more interesting things at the begining of the week.  We did a lot of tracting this week because sadly a bunch of our appointments cancelled again.  Some of the tracting was with Brother Elder Dickman Jr though.  That was fun.  He even gave a Book of Mormon to somebody by himself.

We also did some service!  On Friday and Saturday we went over to the Sanchezs to paint.  They are recent converts.  It was fun.  We were painting part of their house.  And it was only about 105 degrees.  That’s not too bad.

Sunday was a pretty cool day.  We had church as usual, and that was cool.  After church we went over to the Pouliots.  Brother Pouliot invited one of his coworkers over to have us teach him.  We had a pretty good lesson with him.  He lives in Lawrence though, so he will eventually have to get taught by the missionaries there.  But, the Pouliots can keep fellowshipping him.

So yeah, last week was pretty cool.  But this week will be even better!  We are going to do some awesome stuff!

Lots of stuff – August 18, 2014

Hey Yall!

This week was a little more unexciting.  But it was also exciting at the same time.  Every day is different in missionary work.  P-day was really fun.  We just lounged around and stuff.  Then on Tuesday we did stuff.  Like district meeting stuff.  It was a good district meeting.  We talked about stuff.  Then we went tracting!  And that’s what we did for most of the week.  Almost all of our appointments fell through sadly.

Here are some exciting things that happened.  On Wednesday during weekly planning we had a guy come to clean our carpets.  The funny thing is that he spent more time talking with us about the gospel than cleaning our carpets.  It only took like 20 minutes to actually clean the carpet, but he was there for almost two hours.  It was awesome.  On Thursday we went tracting for a couple hours with Brother Elder Dickman Jr.  It was fun and stuff, but not much happened.  Then after dinner we went on splits with two of the high priests.  Friday we had an awesome zone training.  Then we went on exchanges.  I went to Kaw Valley with Elder Simmons.  Then on Saturday and Sunday we did some more tracting!

So that was the week.  I’d put more, but I’m too lazy.  You get a lame email this week.  I want to P-day and stuff!

Here is some more stuff to read if you want more.

Preparing for baptism – August 11, 2014

Hey Yall!

This week was pretty good.  We had some awesome stuff happen.  On Monday we did the usual P-day stuff.  We played some Catan and stuff.  The competition is tough in the district.  But I can usually at least get second.  I just don’t win every time anymore.  But anyway, P-day was fun.

Tuesday was fun too.  We had district meeting in the morning.  I trained on helping people read the Book of Mormon.  Then after the meeting we went around and tracted.  That was for most of the day.  The last thing we did on Tuesday was visit Shihan at the Dojo.  We talked about the priesthood with him.  He wants to work on getting that.

On Wednesday we had a really weird day.  Not much happened other than planning.  It was just weird.  We did go tracting with Brother Elder Dickman Jr though.  That’s all.

Then was Thursday!  Thursday was an awesome day.  We had Specialized Training in the morning.  We talked about helping people prepare for baptism.  Part of that was inviting people even if it’s the first time we meet them.  We were asked to try and invite someone to be baptized every day.  After Specialized Training I had another three hour meeting!  It was District Leader Accountability.  That was a really awesome meeting.  It was all about how we could be good leaders and help the zone out.  Right after the meetings we went and taught Rick.  He decided that he wanted to be baptized on September 13th!  So we are going to help him prepare for that.  The last person we visited Thursday was Branden.  We focused on the Book of Mormon the whole time.  He wants to make sure he’s ready before he decides to be baptized.  So we told him to read the Book of Mormon to get ready.

Friday was another tracting day.  It worked out well though.  One person told us to try their neighbor.  So we did!  It was a family and we talked to the husband.  We talked for a couple minutes about the Book of Mormon, then asked if he would be baptized if he knew it was true.  He said yes, then we set up a time to teach his whole family 45 minutes later.  That’s when we taught them the Restoration.  They said they have been needing to go to church.  They are also going to work towards being baptized on August 30th!

Saturday was slightly less awesome than Friday, but still really good.  We taught Tom right after lunch and then Rick later in the day.  Rick knows a lot since he has been taught various times over the last ten years.  He’s a cool guy.

Sunday was cool.  One of the youth had his mission farewell at church.  He is going to Peru.  Then we did the other usual Sunday stuff.  We tried some investigators.  We also visited a recent convert and taught part of their family.  It was cool.

And that was the week of this last week.  It was fun.  That is all.

Y’all! – August 4, 2014

Hey Yall!

This week was fun.  P-day was relaxing as usual.  We just did the usual.  Played a couple games of Catan and such.  I finally lost a game.  I am no longer undefeated in the district.  It is a different transfer though.  That has to count for something.

Tuesday was district meeting!  It was my first one as District Captain.  So I did the training.  It wasn’t too bad.  We talked about using the scriptures when we talk with people.  After district meeting we did a bunch of tracting.  Not much happened though.  We did go to the Dojo to visit Shihan that night though.  We are going to start studying Preach My Gospel with him.

We spent a lot of the week sharing messages with the members.  We are trying to get them to study Preach My Gospel.  It seems to be helping out.  We start out by reading part of Elder Ballards conference talk called Follow Up.  We want to get all the members more involved in missionary works.  This is a good first step.

On Thursday we went on exchanges with the zone leaders.  I stayed in Sherwood and was with Elder Beckstead.  It was fun.  We spent the whole day walking around talking to people.  We did a lot of tracting.  We met some cool people.  Friday we went with Bro. Skow to teach both Tom and Branden.  We are slowly making progress with them.  Then we went with Bro. Skow to help with the Rhodes move.  We got dinner while we were there too.  Dinner and service!

Then on Saturday we did more service!  We helped Tom do some yard work.  It was cool.  The rest of the day was a little slower.  All of our appointments fell through.  So we shared messages with the members.  We did the same for part of Sunday.  Church was really good.  Then we went with Porter on team-ups.  He is leaving for his mission in Peru next week.  So we brought him along to help him get ready.  We’ll be doing the same thing with some of the other youth this week.  They have nothing better to do.

And that’s about it.  Things are going pretty well.  District leadering is intersting and fun.  I’m finding creative ways to make it more fun for everyine in the district.

Heat Wave – July 28, 2014

Hello Mortals!

This week was pretty fun.  We had some nice adventures.  Most of them included 110 degree weather.  But some of them included 100 degree weather.  On Monday we went to the capitol building and went on the dome tour.  We went all the way to the top.  It was fun.  I got some cool pictures overlooking pretty much all of Kansas since it’s so flat.  We also got our transfer doctrine.  But I already told you about that.

Then on Tuesday we rode our bikes around and almost died of heat stroke.  But not really because we drank lots of water.  But it was still really hot.  Elder McIntire spent part of the day packing for transfers, then he said goodbye to some of the people here.

Wednesday was transfer day!  I stayed up in Topeka with Elder Simmons in the Kaw Valley ward.  We mostly worked in my area because we had people to visit.  One of them was Maxx.  We taught him about missionary work and stuff.  He said he would want to go to Hawaii.  We are still awaiting permission for him to be baptized.  But we keep visiting with him while we wait.  He’s awesome.  Wednesday evening our companions made it up from Wichita.  And that was Wednesday.

On Thursday Elder Johnson and I did stuff.  Just like we did in Wellington.  I mostly brought him around to meet our investigators and a couple members.  We only were able to teach a few people.  After dinner we taught Branden and had a pretty good lesson with him.  He’s so close, but just isn’t quite there yet.

Friday and Saturday we did pretty much the same thing as on Thursday.  Since they took the sisters out of the ward we have all of the people they had.  So we are working on contacting them and going through their area book.  There is a lot for us to do.  Saturday morning we did some really fun service at a members home.  We went with a bunch of other members and helped cut down two trees.  We couldn’t use the power tools, but we still made it awesome.

Sunday was a good day.  It was only 95 degrees.  Quite the cool down.  I enjoyed it a lot.  Church was awesome as well.  There was a missionary that just finished his mission in the MIM that was visiting.  He served in Sherwood when I first got to Kaw Valley, so we knew each other.  He was on his way home with his family.  It was cool.  Not much else happened the rest of the day.  We did some tracting and talked with some people.  Nothing came from it though.  We’ll just keep on tracting!

That was the week.  It was fun.  Hopefully we don’t melt this week!
